Camp Swatara offers a number of charitable giving opportunities including:
- Gift Annuities
- Remainder Trusts
- Charitable Trusts
- Capital Replacements
Gift AnnuitiesThe donor irrevocably transfers property to Camp Swatara. The donor receives an immediate federal income tax charitable deduction, subject to limitations, based on the difference between the value of the property transferred and the present value of the annuity. Camp Swatara makes lifetime annuity payments to the annuitants, usually the donor and/or other named beneficiaries.
Remainder TrustsThe donor irrevocably transfers property to the trustee of a charitable remainder trust (CRT) and receives a federal income tax deduction, subject to limitations. The trustee pays the donor and/or named beneficiaries either a fixed percentage of the initial value of the trust (annuity trust) or a specified percentage of the trust assets as determined each year (unitrust). When the trust ends, the trust principal is transferred to Camp Swatara.
Charitable TrustsThe donor transfers property to a charitable lead trust and receives a federal income tax deduction, subject to limitations. The trust pays Camp Swatara an income from the trust for a specified term. At the end of the specified term, the trust transfers the property to the donor or members of the donors family.
Capital ReplacementThe donor transfers property to a charitable remainder trust (CRT) and receives a federal income tax deduction, subject to limitations. The trust pays the donor an income for life or for a term of years. The donor uses the income from the CRT to help pay premiums for a life insurance policy on the donors life owned by an irrevocable life insurance trust. When the donor dies, the named beneficiaries receive the policy proceeds, and Camp Swatara receives the property in the CRT.
