BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ASSISTANT MANAGER

This is a part-time or full-time position with hours scheduled based on camp’s needs.  From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a summer camp for children and youth.  From Labor Day to Memorial Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a retreat facility with frequent weekend use and occasional midweek groups, including school groups.  The Family Camping Center with 140 sites for tent, cabin, and RV camping for individuals, families, groups, and churches is open from April 1 to November 1.  The Buildings and Grounds Assistant Manager is responsible to assist the Buildings and Grounds Manager to maintain camp’s grounds, facilities, vehicles, and equipment including a variety of maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, logging, repair, and construction projects, as well as assisting with set-up and support for special events. The Assistant Manager also provides supervision for other seasonal Buildings and Grounds staff.  Benefits include an hourly salary, as well as meals when served by camp during work hours.  Staff members working a sufficient number of hours are also eligible for pension and insurance benefits.   Applications are due by March 27, 2017.

HOUSEKEEPING ASSISTANT

This is a full-time position during our busier spring, summer, and fall seasons (approximately April 15-October 15) and is a part-time position with hours scheduled based on camp’s needs during the rest of the year.  From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a summer camp for children and youth.  From Labor Day to Memorial Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a retreat facility with frequent weekend use and occasional midweek groups, including school groups.  The Family Camping Center with 140 sites for tent, cabin, and RV camping for individuals, families, groups, and churches is open from April 1 to November 1.  The Housekeeping Assistant works to ensure that camp facilities are clean and ready to use.  Benefits include a weekly or hourly salary, meals when served by camp during work hours, as well as room and board, if desired, during the summer camp season (Memorial Day to Labor Day).  Position is open immediately and applications will be processed as received until the position is filled.

ASSISTANT COOK

This is a seasonal position during our summer camp season and is a part-time position with hours scheduled based on camp’s needs during the retreat season. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a summer camp for children and youth. Meals and evening snacks are served family style each day for campers, staff, and guest groups in the dining hall, as well as regular cookouts and packouts. From Labor Day to Memorial Day, Camp Swatara is primarily a retreat facility with frequent weekend use and occasional midweek groups, including school groups. Many of the year-round meals are served buffet style. The Assistant Cook is responsible to assist the Food Service Manager and Head Cook to prepare and serve meals, including cookouts and packouts, set-up the dining hall and buffet lines, and clean-up in the dining hall(s), kitchen, and dish room. SUMMER STAFF EMPLOYMENT

STOREKEEPERS (2) – Run Family Camp store, as scheduled.  Assist with East Lodge store, as scheduled, during summer camp program.  Part-time April 1-November 1.

FCC ASSISTANT (1) – Clean FCC bathhouses, pavilions, kitchens, and cabins/sites. Empty trash cans and pick-up litter throughout FCC.  Assist with programming or other areas of operation as time allows.  Full-time Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Days off: Tuesday and Thursday.

CHAPLAIN (1) – Serve as a resource to summer camp programs to assist groups and leaders in planning morning praise, vespers, and sacred campfires.  Lead Bible, as needed, or assist leaders in planning and leading.  Manage summer camper mail and email.  Work with FCC Manager to plan, coordinate, and lead Sunday morning worship at the Fellowship Hall and a midweek FCC campfire.  Assist in other areas of camp operation as needed to meet workload.  Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Day off: Saturday.

COUNSELORS (6 guys, 6 girls) – Live with campers and guide them through their camp program and activities.  Provide guidance and supervision.  Serve as resource person (crafts, nature, Bible, music, etc.) when assigned to that role.  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.  Day off: Saturday.

CRAFTS COORDINATOR (1) – Lead crafts for campers, including a midweek and weekend option in FCC.  Maintain inventory of crafts supplies.  Keep craft pavilions clean and organized.  Assist volunteers and resource leaders in selecting projects and gathering supplies.  Coordinate name tags for registration.  Serve as counselor, if needed.  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.   Day off: Saturday noon to Sunday noon.  Mid-week break.

NATURE COORDINATOR (1) – Teach nature for campers, including a midweek and weekend option in FCC.  Maintain inventory of nature supplies.  Oversee nature lodge, including displays and animals.  Assist volunteers and resource leaders in selecting lessons and gathering supplies.  Coordinate store and offering money collection for registration.  Serve as counselor, if needed.  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.  Day off: Saturday noon to Sunday noon.  Mid-week break.

OLS / ROPES COORDINATOR (1) – Lead OLS activities.  Lead groups in adventure games, climbing tower, and challenge course.  Serve as a resource to Mountainside directors, staff, and campers.  Maintain OLS shed and equipment.  Offer OLS or ropes activities for FCC campers, as scheduled with FCC Manager.  Serve as counselor, if needed.  Set-up camper registrations (signs, tables, chairs, etc.)  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.  Day off: Saturday or Saturday noon to Sunday noon.  Mid-week break.

WATERFRONT MANAGER (1) – At least 21 years old.  Schedule, manage, and supervise staff and activities at the lake and pool.  Coordinate off-site canoe trips.  Ensure health, safety, and accreditation standards are met.  Serve as lifeguard when scheduled.  Memorial Day to Labor Day.  One day off per week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, or Fri).  Weekend opportunities to lifeguard for boating in May and September.  

LIFEGUARDS (3) – Provide surveillance for pool and lake activities.  Orient campers and groups to rules and boating procedures.  Plan and lead pool parties.  Clean and maintain aquatic areas, equipment, and facilities.  Assist with running FCC mini-golf.  Memorial Day to Labor Day.  One day off per week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, or Fri).  Weekend opportunities to lifeguard for boating in May and September.

HEAD COOK (1+) – At least 21.  Lead kitchen staff in food preparation, meal set-up, and clean-up.  Carry out directions from Food Service Manager.  Ensure that health, safety, and accreditation standards are met.  Live on-site or off-site during summer camp.  Can be hourly or salaried for regular hours Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Hourly, as scheduled, throughout the year.

ASSISTANT COOKS (4+) – Assist head cook in food preparation, dining hall set-up, and dishwashing.  Can be hourly or salaried.  Live on-site or off-site during summer camp.  Must apply for regular, full-time hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  Additional hours as scheduled throughout the year.

HEALTH MANAGER / HEAD NURSE (1) – RN.  Oversee health department for summer camp ensuring health, safety, and cleanliness for campers and living areas.  Distribute medications and administer first-aid.  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.  Day off: Saturday.

ASSISTANT NURSE (1+) – Assist head nurse in carrying out camp’s health program.  May 31-August 10, off July 15-22.  Day off: Saturday.

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ASSISTANT (2) – Assist Buildings and Grounds Manager in a variety of maintenance, landscaping, groundskeeping, repair, and construction projects.  Can be hourly or salaried.  Live on-site or off-site.  10 weeks, approx. June 5-August 11.  One day off per week.
