User Guidelines

(For safety & nature of the course) 

Dress appropriately.  The course is entirely in the woods.  Wear long pants and boots.  The area is rocky, wet & thorny.    

 

Carry a first aid kit.  Cuts, bruises, sprained ankles, beestings, etc. are all possible risks.  Be prepared. 

 

Communicate.  Tell someone where you will be and give an estimated return time.   

 

Stay hydrated.  This is hiking.  Carry water and energy food. 

 

Stop before dusk.  Darkness falls quickly in the woods.  Quit when there is still some light.     

 

Leave no trace.  Take all trash with you and collect what you may find along the way.

 

 
Challenge Courses

 The Camp Swatara Challenge Course is a three part course which includes Adventure Games, two High Ropes Courses as well as a Climbing and Rappelling Tower. Groups can choose to do any or all of the parts. The Challenge Course is open weekends and weekdays from March to November, although our summer campers are given priority from June to August. The course is led by trained, qualified, challenge course instructors, who truly enjoy leading others through a challenge course experience. The course provides a way for your group to learn to work together, and understand each other better. The course can build self esteem and teach encouragement. It provides an exciting, adventurous, challenging and fun opportunity. It is open to any and all family groups, church groups, scout groups, school groups, community groups, and corporate groups.

 
The Camp Swatara Challenge Course is a three-part course that includes:

  • Adventure Games – Obstacles are designed to build communication, Cooperation and team bonding skills, in finding out who is our ultimate Team Leader!
  • The High Ropes Course - NEW two level Pole Based ropes course suspended 30 feet in the air. This course will help you to learn the importance of encouragement and persistence. The ropes course allows the participant the ability to actively engage in an element independently of another human being with the use of a participant static line system. Showing us that with God at the top of our ropes anything is possible.
  • Climbing and Rappelling Tower – Three sided 33 foot tower, ranging in levels from beginner to more advanced. Allowing you to set your own goals of varying difficulties. With Jesus at our side the mountains may not go away but they sure are easier to climb.

Hiking Trails

ImageThe Camp Swatara Hiking Trails include thirteen trails for all skill levels and ranging in length from 1/4 to 2 miles.  Our trails weave through the beautiful Appalachian mountain range and are filled with babbling brooks, scenic vistas and ancient rock fields.  From the unique night-only reflector trail to the rewarding Rock Pile trail, Camp Swatara's trail system is sure to delight every traveler.


Family Campers and retreat groups are welcome to use our hiking trails and resident camps make significant use of the trail system.
